Vision Therapy

Because vision is a trainable, enhanceable and learned ability, it can be improved. Administered by our certified therapists, Vision Therapy re-teaches and reinforces visual skills, reduces blocks to learning, and decreases stress and fatigue. These trained therapists implement weekly, in-office, individually prescribed therapy programs tailored to develop and refine the visual needs for classroom success and everyday life. The result is improved efficiency and productivity, and ultimately, greater school achievement.

Many of our patients have reported remarkable breakthroughs in school and sports performance after completing treatment. Today's passive activities such as video games, television and sitting at the computer have replaced many of the physical games that can strengthen visual coordination in children. As a result, they often do poorly in school because their visual systems have not been sufficiently developed to cope with the demands of reading and writing tasks.

What is Vision Therapy?

Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies. Vision Therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control:
  • eye alignment,
  • eye teaming,
  • eye focusing abilities,
  • eye movements, and/or
  • visual processing.
Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters. During the final stages of therapy, the patient's newly acquired visual skills are reinforced and made automatic through repetition and by integration with motor and cognitive skills.
